Tongchuanshi Map Poster & Print
Tongchuan lies on the southern edge of the Loess Plateau in Shaanxi, north of Xi'an. Its map is shaped by terrain. The city does not spread in a circle but runs in long, narrow bands along river valleys, with steep loess ridges on either side. The old centre and the newer districts to the south are linked by a road and rail corridor that follows the valley floor.
For much of the twentieth century Tongchuan was a coal-mining city, and mines, rail spurs and industrial sites still appear across its landscape. The area has an older heritage too. The Huangbao kilns here produced Yaozhou ware, a celadon admired since the Song dynasty, and a museum on the site now presents that history.
A Tongchuan map poster captures a city pressed into its valleys. Long ribbons of streets follow the rivers, and the gaps between them trace the ridges of the plateau. It is an unusual and striking shape, very different from the round cities of the plains.

Steep, terraced loess slopes rise between the valleys. Where streets cannot climb, the map is left open, and those gaps define the city's shape.
Road and rail corridor
The main transport routes follow the valley floor, linking the old town, the new districts and Xi'an to the south. They form the backbone of the whole map.
