Yamada Bay
This almost enclosed bay has a narrow mouth to the Pacific. Its calm water and small islands form a clean shape that anchors the centre of the map.

Yamada Map Poster & Print
Yamada lies on the Sanriku coast of Iwate Prefecture, where steep wooded hills drop straight into a series of deep, sheltered bays. From above, the town fills the narrow flat ground around Yamada Bay, with streets squeezed between the water and the slopes. Funakoshi Bay lies just beyond the mountainous peninsula next door.
Yamada Bay is enclosed by land on almost every side, and its calm surface is marked by lines of floating rafts used to farm oysters and scallops. Small islands sit within it, and the shoreline is a sequence of coves, harbours and breakwaters. On a poster the intricate coast stands out sharply against the smooth, empty water.
Yamada was among the towns badly damaged by the 2011 tsunami. Much of its centre has since been rebuilt on raised ground, and the coastal railway has been restored as part of the Sanriku Railway Rias Line. A Yamada map poster records the town as it stands today, between the mountains and a quiet bay.

Ria coastline
Headlands, coves and deep inlets give the Sanriku coast its jagged outline. The poster draws it as an intricate edge between steep land and open sea.
Rebuilt centre
After 2011 much of the town centre near the station and harbour was rebuilt on raised ground, and the current street network reflects that reconstruction.

De ce Yamada
O hartă care înseamnă ceva
For people from Yamada and the Sanriku coast, a map of the town carries both memory and continuity: the bay that has always been there and the streets that have returned. It is also a meaningful piece for anyone who has volunteered or travelled in the region.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps with a year or a family name. Choose Noir for a dark sea, or Classic black & white, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Printed posters on matte paper are available with an optional wooden frame.
