Valley-bound centre
The town's streets are confined to the valley floor, forming a narrow, dense shape that follows the lie of the land rather than a planned grid.

Zhelou Map Poster & Print
Zhelou lies in the south-west of Guizhou province, in some of the most striking karst country in China. The town fills whatever flat ground its valley allows, so the streets form a compact, elongated shape pressed between slopes. Roads leave the centre in tight curves, climbing into the hills along the few routes the terrain permits, and the built-up area ends abruptly where the land rises.
Guizhou's karst landscape is known for cone-shaped limestone hills, sinkholes, caves and underground rivers, and much of the province's farmland is squeezed into small pockets between them. On a map this creates an unusual rhythm: settlements appear as dense islands linked by threads of road, with large blank areas where the slopes are too steep for building or fields.
A Zhelou map poster turns that terrain into a striking abstract image. The compact centre, the looping roads and the scattered pockets of settlement make a composition that feels both organic and graphic. It suits anyone with roots in Guizhou, or anyone drawn to the way mountains shape where and how people live.

Switchback roads
Routes out of town wind back and forth up the hillsides, producing long, looping lines that give the map much of its energy.
Karst terrain
Steep limestone hills surround the town, leaving small pockets of flat land for fields and hamlets scattered between wide empty slopes.
