El Grao, or El Grau, is the maritime district of Castellón de la Plana on Spain's eastern coast. It sits a few kilometres from the city centre, where the land meets the Mediterranean. On a map, the rectangular basins of the port and the long arms of the breakwaters give it strong geometry. The coastline runs north as a clean, nearly straight edge.
One unusual detail makes the district stand out: the Greenwich meridian passes very close by, so El Grao sits almost exactly at zero degrees longitude.
