Gorbitz Map Poster
Gorbitz is a district on the western side of Dresden, best known for the large housing estate built there in the final decade of the GDR. From above it looks nothing like the old city centre by the Elbe. Instead of a medieval street plan, you see long residential blocks laid out in bends and loops, with wide green spaces and service roads between them.
The estate was designed as one project, and the map shows it. Streets curve to follow the terrain, courtyards open between parallel buildings, and a tram line ties the district to the rest of the city. Around the edges, older village cores and patches of garden land show what stood here before the building work began.
