Timashyovsk lies in Krasnodar Krai, north of Krasnodar, on the flat, fertile plain of the Kuban. From above the town is orderly. Long straight streets meet at right angles, and the blocks are filled with low houses and gardens, the typical plan of a former Cossack stanitsa. The small Kirpili river passes through, its banks marked by ponds and green strips.
The town grew as a railway junction, and the railway lines give the map its strongest diagonals. Around the town, huge rectangular fields separated by lines of shelter trees spread in every direction. This is one of Russia's most productive farming regions, and the geometry of agriculture reaches right up to the last streets.
