Toruń Map Poster & Print
Toruń sits on the Vistula River in northern Poland, with its historic centre on the north bank. From above, the Old Town and the New Town form a compact block of streets pressed against the river, and a belt of greenery runs around them where the fortifications used to be. Beyond that ring the city spreads out in later, looser districts.
The medieval town is a UNESCO World Heritage site, known for its Gothic brick churches, town hall and the ruins of the Teutonic Knights' castle. Nicolaus Copernicus was born here in 1473, and the city is also known for its gingerbread, a tradition that goes back centuries. A leaning medieval tower near the river is one of its smaller curiosities.
