Daimiel lies in the province of Ciudad Real, in the heart of the La Mancha plain. The town is best known for the Tablas de Daimiel National Park to the north. It is a wetland where the Guadiana and Cigüela rivers once spread into shallow floodplains, and it is one of the most important inland wetlands in Spain for birds.
The town itself is compact and dense. Streets form a tight, irregular network around the main squares and churches, and then the pattern stops abruptly at the edge of the plain. Beyond it, straight rural roads and field boundaries divide the flat landscape of vineyards, olive groves and arable land into long, geometric parcels.
