Valley layout
The built-up area stretches along the valley floor, so the district is an elongated shape. Streets run parallel to the main road, and hills close in on either side.

Didao Map Poster
Didao is one of the districts of Jixi, a city in the far east of Heilongjiang province, not far from the Russian border. Jixi grew as a coal-mining centre, and Didao shares that industrial background. From above it is a compact urban area in a valley, with a modest street grid, industrial sites and rail lines running between low hills and farmland.
Like much of northeast China, the district was shaped by twentieth-century industry, and its layout is practical rather than decorative. Straight main streets run along the valley, apartment blocks stand in regular rows, and rail lines serve the industrial land. Beyond the edges, rectangular fields cover the flatter ground and wooded slopes rise on the surrounding hills.
A Didao map poster reduces all of this to a clear, graphic image: the dense block of streets in the centre, the road and rail lines heading east toward central Jixi, and the open countryside around. It is an unusual subject for a wall, which is exactly why it means so much to people from this corner of Heilongjiang.

Rail and industry
Railway lines and industrial sites sit alongside the residential blocks. Their long straight tracks and broad yards form strong geometric shapes on the black-and-white poster.
Surrounding fields
Past the last streets, the map opens into large rectangular plots of farmland. It shows how closely town and countryside sit together in this part of northeast China.
