Old city lanes
The historic centre forms a dense cluster of alleys and small squares, with perfume workshops and houses side by side. It creates the finest street texture on the poster.

Kannauj Map Poster & Print
Kannauj lies in Uttar Pradesh on the Ganges plain, near the point where the Kali river flows into the Ganges. On a map the town is a compact mass of narrow, winding lanes, the result of many centuries of continuous settlement. Around it lie fields and the looping, sandy river channels that shift from one monsoon to the next.
In ancient texts Kannauj is called Kanyakubja. In the seventh century it was the capital of King Harsha, and it remained one of the leading cities of northern India for several hundred years after that. Today it is best known for attar, a traditional perfume distilled from flowers and herbs in copper stills, a craft still practised in workshops in the older quarters.
A Kannauj map poster gives shape to that long story: a tight urban core rebuilt many times over, the roads running out toward Kanpur and Farrukhabad, and the broad river country along the Ganges. There is a lot of history behind such a modest town, and its fine street pattern prints very well in black and white.

Ganges floodplain
Beyond the town the river spreads across a wide floodplain of shifting channels and sandbanks, a soft, open counterpoint to the compact grain of the streets.
Attar workshops
Attar distilleries are spread through the older neighbourhoods, a reminder that the map shows a working craft town, not a museum of its own past.
