Allende, also known as Villa Allende, lies in southern Veracruz on the eastern bank of the Coatzacoalcos river. The city of Coatzacoalcos is on the opposite shore. From above, the wide river channel is the defining feature, separating the two settlements before it opens into the Gulf of Mexico a short distance to the north.
The streets of Allende form a compact grid along the waterfront, spreading east over low ground. Around it, the map is shaped by the industry of this coast: port facilities along the river, large industrial plots and the road and tunnel connections that link both banks.
