Le faʻafanua
Coquitlam lies in the eastern part of Metro Vancouver, between the Fraser River to the south and a mountainous, forested watershed to the north. From above, the city unfolds in layers: older neighbourhoods and industrial land near the river, a denser town centre in the middle, and newer subdivisions curling up the slopes of Westwood Plateau and Burke Mountain, their streets following the contours.
The Coquitlam River flows through the city from Coquitlam Lake, a protected reservoir that supplies drinking water to much of the region. In the city centre, Lafarge Lake sits in a park beside high-rise towers, and since 2016 the Evergreen Extension of the SkyTrain has linked the area directly with Burnaby and Vancouver. Mundy Park, a large area of forest, lies among the residential streets to the south-west.
A Coquitlam map poster shows a suburban city shaped by terrain, where straighter streets on the lower ground give way to looping roads on the hillsides and the map fades into forest at its northern edge. It works as a portrait of a West Coast community living between the river, the mountains and the city.
On Westwood Plateau and Burke Mountain, residential streets curve and branch along the slopes, forming intricate loops and cul-de-sacs that contrast with the flatter grid below.
The city centre gathers around Lafarge Lake and Town Centre Park, with SkyTrain stations, towers and wide streets arranged around the water.
The river runs south from the mountains toward the Fraser, its wooded corridor cutting a green line through the eastern neighbourhoods of the city.

Aisea Coquitlam
Coquitlam is where many families have settled in Metro Vancouver, and its map gathers the routes of daily life: the SkyTrain ride, the trail by the river, the hillside street where the children learned to ride a bike.
