Le faʻafanua
Kea is the Cycladic island nearest to Athens, reached by ferry from Lavrio on the Attica coast. From above it is compact and roughly oval, rising to hills in the middle and dropping to a coast of small coves. Only a few roads wind across the island, following ridges between valleys, and much of the land is crossed by old footpaths and terraced slopes.
The ferry arrives at Korissia, on a deep bay in the northwest, with Vourkari a short walk along the shore. Inland, the main town of Ioulida clings to a hillside, its lanes too narrow and steep for cars, forming a tight knot of lines on the map. Nearby, the Lion of Kea, an archaic figure carved into the rock, looks out across the valley.
In antiquity the island was divided among four city-states, and it was home to the lyric poets Simonides and Bacchylides. Today it remains quieter than many of the Cyclades, known for walking routes and oak woodland. A Kea map poster shows the island's calm structure: a sheltered harbour, a hill town and a web of routes across the high ground.
The island's port sits at the head of a deep, protected bay on the northwest coast. On the poster it cuts a clear notch into the outline, with Vourkari along its shore.
The hill town near the centre of the island, where stepped lanes wind between houses. It shows up as a dense, irregular cluster, very different from a planned grid.
Kea's shore is cut into many small coves and headlands, from the harbour bays in the north to quieter inlets elsewhere. It gives the island's outline its fine detail.

Aisea Kea
Kea is close enough to Athens for a weekend and quiet enough to feel far away. People who return year after year, or keep a house there, often want the whole island on the wall rather than a single beach photograph.
Add a title, a subtitle with a summer or a date, and keep or edit the coordinates line. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The $9 HD files include six print sizes, or order a matte print with an optional frame.
