Le faʻafanua
Parobé sits in the Paranhana valley in Rio Grande do Sul, where the lowlands around Porto Alegre start to rise towards the Serra Gaúcha. The town grew as part of an industrial belt in this valley, which is closely associated with footwear manufacturing, and its neighbourhoods spread out along the valley floor and the roads that link it to nearby towns.
On a map, Parobé looks like a settlement shaped by its terrain. The denser streets gather in the flatter centre. Farther out, roads curve around low hills and follow watercourses, and the pattern loosens into semi-rural lots and patches of woodland. Regional roads pass through and connect the town to its neighbours in the valley.
A Parobé map poster captures that transition from compact centre to rolling edges. In monochrome, the contrast between the tight blocks near the middle and the winding lines towards the hills gives the print depth. For families from the Paranhana valley, it is a specific and recognisable piece of southern Brazil.
The core of Parobé sits on the flatter ground of the Paranhana valley, where the street grid is most regular and blocks are packed most closely together.
Towards the outskirts, streets start to curve around low hills, and the map loosens from a grid into a looser web of winding connections.
Parobé is one link in a chain of towns along the Paranhana corridor, and regional roads run through it towards its neighbours up and down the valley.
