Le faʻafanua
San Joaquín is a town in Carabobo state in northern Venezuela, in the valleys between the cities of Valencia and Maracay. This corridor is one of the most densely settled and industrialised parts of the country, with highways, factories and towns close together. From above, San Joaquín has a traditional grid centre around its main square, with newer neighbourhoods spreading outward.
The setting is a broad valley floor running toward the Lake Valencia basin, framed to the north by the mountains of the coastal range. Farmland, industrial areas and roads fill the space between the town and its neighbours. On the map, the regular blocks of the centre stand out against the looser pattern of the outskirts and the fields.
A San Joaquín map poster offers a precise, personal image of a town that many people pass on their way between larger cities. For those who grew up here, especially the many Venezuelans now living abroad, the poster keeps their own streets and the familiar layout of the centre in view.
The historic centre follows the Spanish colonial pattern of regular blocks around a main square, forming the densest part of the map.
The town lies in a busy corridor of roads and highways between Valencia and Maracay, whose main routes cross the map as bold lines.
The coastal mountains rise to the north of the valley, and their emptier terrain gives the poster a quiet, open edge.

Many people hang this map to keep their hometown close, especially those living far from Venezuela. It shows the actual streets, the square and the neighbourhoods they remember, not a generic national symbol.
