Le faʻafanua
Suez stands at the southern entrance of the Suez Canal, where the waterway opens into the Gulf of Suez. From above, water defines the city on two sides: the straight, engineered line of the canal and the broad, shallow bay at the head of the gulf. Port Tewfik sits on a narrow spit of reclaimed land that reaches out to meet the canal mouth.
The canal opened in 1869 and turned a small town into a strategic port, and the city's layout still reflects that history. Older districts near the waterfront have tight, irregular blocks, while later neighbourhoods spread inland in more regular grids. To the west, the Ataqa mountains rise from the desert, leaving the city on a narrow strip between rock and sea.
Industrial zones, refineries and port facilities occupy long stretches of the shoreline, and their long rectangular plots add their own geometry to the map. A Suez map poster brings these elements together: the canal's clean line, the jagged harbour edges and a dense city, all set against the open expanses of gulf and desert.
The southern mouth of the Suez Canal is one of the most recognisable waterways on any map. It is a straight channel that meets open water in a precise, engineered junction.
This district on reclaimed land extends toward the canal entrance. It has its own small grid of streets and a shoreline shaped by quays and moorings.
South of the city, the head of the gulf forms a wide, shallow bay. This large calm area of open space gives the poster room to breathe.

Aisea Suez
Suez is a city defined by passage, by ships moving between seas and by people moving through. For anyone connected to it, a map of the canal mouth and the gulf is a clear symbol of that position, and it is simple enough for any room.
