Le faʻafanua
Waterdown is a community within the city of Hamilton, Ontario, set on top of the Niagara Escarpment north of Burlington Bay. The escarpment is its defining feature. From above, the town sits on the upland plain, while the ground drops sharply to the south and east. Grindstone Creek flows through the area and cuts a wooded ravine down the slope.
Waterdown began as a mill village, using the creek's fall over the escarpment to power its mills, and the old village core still sits near the ravine. Since then, the town has grown a great deal, with new subdivisions of winding streets spreading north and east across former farmland. The contrast between old and new is easy to see on the map.
A Waterdown map poster shows the compact historic grid of the village beside the curving streets of the newer suburbs, all bounded by the green edge of the escarpment. It is a varied and detailed composition. It suits long-time residents and newcomers alike, anyone who has walked the trails along the creek.

The creek winds through a wooded ravine and falls over the escarpment. It once powered the village's mills and now runs through parkland and trails.
A small historic grid sits beside large new subdivisions of curving streets. The two patterns make a clear record of how the town has grown.

Aisea Waterdown
Waterdown has changed a lot in recent decades, and a map shows both the old village and the new streets. It is a good gift for people who grew up here, families who have just moved in, or anyone leaving the escarpment for somewhere new.
