Dalu is a town in Chongqing Municipality in southwestern China, set in the hilly country west of the main city. The landscape is typical of the Sichuan Basin: low, rounded hills, narrow valleys and a dense pattern of small fields and ponds. From above, the town's streets gather in a compact core, with roads leaving along the easiest routes through the terrain.
Towns of this kind act as local centres for the surrounding villages, with shops and services concentrated along a few main streets. Beyond the edge of the built-up area the map quickly turns rural. Scattered houses, farm tracks and small reservoirs spread across the slopes, fitted closely into the folds of the land.
