Organic town core
The streets bend with the terrain instead of following a grid. They form an irregular cluster where the land flattens enough to build.

Mapa
Xiaodu Map Poster & Print
Xiaodu is a town in the western part of Chongqing Municipality, in the rolling hill country of the eastern Sichuan Basin. The land here is a constant rise and fall of low ridges and shallow valleys. It is farmed intensively, and settlements take whatever flat ground they can. From above, the town has an irregular, organic shape, very different from a planned city grid.
The built-up area gathers along its main roads, with smaller lanes filling the space between. Around it, the map shows a dense pattern of fields, ponds and terraces following the slopes. Streams run through the valleys and join larger rivers further off. The whole landscape is patterned by generations of farming.
A Xiaodu map poster turns this terrain into a detailed composition. There is a small, dense town core surrounded by the fine patchwork of the Sichuan Basin countryside. It looks strong at larger sizes, where the texture of fields and water becomes a pattern of its own around the streets.

Fields and ponds
Around the town, farm plots and small ponds form a dense patchwork. It is the typical intensively farmed countryside of the Sichuan Basin.
Valley streams
Small streams wind through the low valleys between the ridges. They are soft, curving lines connecting the fields and settlements of the area.
