The Ixelles Ponds
Two linked ponds lie in a gentle valley between Place Flagey and La Cambre. On the map they form a soft vertical line of water through otherwise dense streets.

Ixelles lies just south-east of the Brussels pentagon, and on a map it looks unusual. Avenue Louise belongs to the City of Brussels and cuts through it, so the commune reads as two pieces. On either side, narrow terraced streets pack tightly together, with a few squares and tree-lined avenues opening up the grid.
The clearest shapes are the Ixelles Ponds, a chain of water in a shallow valley that runs down towards the Abbey of La Cambre and its terraced gardens. Place Flagey sits at the top of the ponds, next to the Art Deco broadcasting building that gives the square its name. Further south-east, the university campuses add larger blocks and open lawns.
The commune is known for its Art Nouveau facades, for the Matongé quarter near Porte de Namur, and as the birthplace of Audrey Hepburn in 1929. An Ixelles map poster shows how much city fits into a small area, with fine streets filling the frame from edge to edge and the ponds sitting as quiet voids in the middle.

Avenue Louise
The long, straight avenue slices diagonally through the commune towards the Bois de la Cambre. It divides Ixelles into two parts and gives the whole composition a strong axis.
La Cambre Abbey
The former Cistercian abbey sits at the foot of the ponds, surrounded by formal terraces and gardens. It shows up as a green pocket framed by the streets that curve around it.

Kwa nini Ixelles
Ramani yenye maana
People hang Ixelles on their walls because they lived there as students, worked near Avenue Louise, or spent weekends walking around the ponds. It is a Brussels map at close range, detailed enough to find a particular street and still easy to read from across a room.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example with a street name or a moving-in date. Choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Buy it as a $9 digital download in six print sizes, or order a matte print with an optional wooden frame.
