Windsor is a town in Sonoma County, in California's wine country, between Santa Rosa and Healdsburg. It incorporated as a town in 1992 and grew quickly afterwards. From above it looks like a modern suburban community: curving residential streets and cul-de-sacs, with a planned town centre built around a central green.
US Route 101 runs along the western side of town, a straight, heavy line dividing Windsor from the vineyards and farmland beyond. The Windsor Town Green, with its surrounding shops and houses, is a clear rectangle in the middle of the looser suburban pattern. A commuter rail line runs through town, and parks and creeks add open space.
