Branching bay
The harbour's inlets reach deep into the land and divide the city into two distinct halves. On the poster the water forms a bold, irregular shape at the centre.

Maizuru Map Poster & Print
Maizuru sits in the north of Kyoto Prefecture on the Sea of Japan, wrapped around one of the best natural harbours on that coast. The bay reaches deep inland and splits into two arms. The city grew around both, with West Maizuru on one side and East Maizuru on the other, separated by a ridge of wooded hills.
West Maizuru is the older castle town, once centred on Tanabe Castle, with a traditional street pattern. East Maizuru grew later as a port for the Imperial Japanese Navy. Its streets were laid out in a regular grid and are famously named after warships, and red-brick warehouses from that era still stand near the waterfront.
After the Second World War, Maizuru was a main port for Japanese soldiers and civilians returning from abroad, a history a local museum preserves. A Maizuru map poster puts the bay at the heart of the composition, with the two towns spread along its shores and hills pressing close on every side.

East Maizuru grid
The former naval town was planned with straight, evenly spaced streets, many named after warships. It is the most regular part of the map.
Hills between
Wooded slopes separate the two towns and surround the bay, leaving the built-up areas as narrow bands along the shore.

Maizuru appeals to people with ties to the Kyoto coast, to families linked to its naval or repatriation history, and to anyone who likes maps where water and land meet in complex shapes.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example with a family name or a year, and choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint emphasises the harbour lines, while Paper gives the bay a softer look.
