Bébédja lies in the Logone Oriental province of southern Chad, in a landscape of savanna, farmland and scattered trees. It is one of the larger towns of the province. From above it appears as a spread of streets and compounds around a central area, with roads leading out across the flat terrain toward neighbouring towns and villages.
Southern Chad is the country's main agricultural zone, with cotton, millet and other crops grown across the plains, and Bébédja serves as a local centre for trade in the surrounding area. The wider region also includes the Doba oil fields, which brought new roads and infrastructure to this part of the country from the early 2000s.
