Mubi is a town in the north of Adamawa State, close to Nigeria's border with Cameroon and to the Mandara Mountains, whose rocky hills rise in the surrounding country. On a map the town forms a compact core with streets that loosen as they spread outward, and main roads leading away toward other towns in the region and to border crossings.
It has long been a trading centre for the area, with a large market that draws farmers and traders from both sides of the border. Mubi is also a university town, home to Adamawa State University and the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi, which bring students from across north-eastern Nigeria.
