Budaörs lies just beyond Budapest's western edge, where the Buda Hills fall toward a broad basin. On a map, the older town forms a compact core at the foot of the slopes, while newer housing climbs the hillsides and commercial areas spread along the motorways that pass through on their way west.
The town has a long German-speaking heritage, and before the Second World War it was known as Wudersch. It is also home to Budaörs Airport, one of the oldest airfields in Hungary, opened in the 1930s with a modernist terminal that still stands on the plain below the town.
