Chiffa is a town in Blida Province in northern Algeria, on the southern edge of the Mitidja, the fertile plain behind Algiers. On a map it sits at a clear boundary. To the north lies a regular pattern of roads, orchards and fields. To the south the steep, folded terrain of the Blidean Atlas rises abruptly above the town.
The Chiffa river comes out of the mountains here after cutting through the Chiffa gorges, a narrow, dramatic ravine that the road south toward Médéa follows. The gorges are known for their Barbary macaques, which gather near the stream at the Ruisseau des Singes, one of the best-known natural spots in the region.
