Ciechanów Map Poster & Print
Ciechanów lies in northern Mazovia, about a hundred kilometres north of Warsaw, on the small Łydynia river. From above, the town has a compact historic centre on higher ground, with the river valley running along one side. Around it, residential districts of houses and apartment blocks spread outward, with roads and a railway crossing the map.
The town's best-known landmark is the castle of the Dukes of Masovia, a brick Gothic fortress from the fourteenth century with two round towers, standing in the river valley. Ciechanów was also the birthplace of the Romantic-era scholar and poet Aleksander Świętochowski? No — it is associated with the region's history as a ducal seat, and today it is a regional centre for northern Mazovia.
A Ciechanów map poster brings out the relation between the river, the castle and the town. The Łydynia's line, the green of the valley, the older streets and the later districts create a layered composition that shows how a medieval seat grew into a modern town.
