Kolea lies in Tipaza Province, on the low Sahel hills that separate the Mitidja plain from the Mediterranean coast west of Algiers. The town sits on higher ground, and the map shows it as a compact cluster of streets with main roads leading off toward the coast, the plain and neighbouring towns.
The older centre has a fairly regular street plan. Newer districts have spread outward along the roads and slopes. Beyond them, the map opens into farmland: orchards, fields and scattered buildings on the hills and down into the flat Mitidja to the south.
