Krabi Town lies on the estuary of the Krabi River, on the Andaman coast of southern Thailand. It is the provincial capital and the gateway to Ao Nang, Railay and the islands of the Andaman Sea, including Ko Phi Phi. From above, the town stretches along the western bank of the river, with dense streets on one side and a wide band of mangrove forest across the water.
Just off the town's riverfront, the twin limestone hills of Khao Khanab Nam rise from the mangroves, one of the best-known images of Krabi. The whole province is known for these steep karst formations. On the map, the river mouth widens toward the sea, piers line the bank, and roads lead out west toward the beaches.
