Maro is a town in the Mandoul province, in the far south of Chad, close to the border with the Central African Republic. The landscape here is flat, wooded savanna, crossed by seasonal rivers that swell during the rainy season. From above, the town is an open pattern of streets and compounds rather than a dense grid.
Roads leading in and out form the main lines of the map, with smaller paths running between houses and plots. The edges of town fade into fields and trees, and the outlines of watercourses appear as thin, winding lines across the land.
