Maych’ew is a town in southern Tigray, in the Ethiopian highlands, on the main road that runs north toward Mekelle. On the map the highway is the organising line: the town stretches along it, and most side streets branch away in short blocks before giving way to open land.
The surrounding terrain is upland country, with fields, hills and seasonal watercourses. In a black-and-white print that shows up as a fine scatter of tracks and footpaths around a denser core, the kind of loose pattern that reflects how highland towns grow along roads rather than in planned grids.
