Prostějov sits in the middle of the Haná, one of the most fertile and level parts of Moravia. Without hills or a large river to shape it, the town grew outwards from its historic centre in a fairly even ring. On a map the old core is easy to find: a dense cluster of short streets around the main square, with broader avenues and parks tracing the line of the former town edge.
For a long time Prostějov was a centre of the Czech clothing and tailoring industry, and it was often described as the capital of ready-to-wear fashion. Architecture is another point of pride.
