Asakusa lies in Taitō ward in northeastern Tokyo, on the west bank of the Sumida River. It grew up around Sensō-ji, the city's oldest temple, which by tradition was founded in the seventh century, and for centuries it was one of Edo's main entertainment districts. On a map the temple grounds form a large open block inside a close grid of streets.
From the south, the Kaminarimon gate opens onto Nakamise-dōri, a narrow shopping street that runs straight to the temple. Smaller lanes and covered arcades fill the blocks around it, and wider roads frame the district. To the east, the Sumida River curves past, crossed by the Azuma Bridge and other bridges leading into Sumida ward.
Across the river stand the Asahi Beer Hall and, a little further off, the Tokyo Skytree, completed in 2012. Every May the Sanja Matsuri festival fills the streets around the temple. An Asakusa map poster captures this traditional side of Tokyo in precise lines, with the temple grounds, shopping streets and river forming a clear, balanced composition.
The temple precinct is the largest open area on the map, a broad space around which the surrounding streets and arcades are arranged.
The shopping street runs in a straight line from the Kaminarimon gate to the temple and is one of the most recognisable features of the district from above.
The river curves along the eastern edge of the district, crossed by several bridges that link Asakusa with the neighbourhoods on the opposite bank.

Aiheā Asakusa
Asakusa suits travellers who remember walking through the Kaminarimon, residents of eastern Tokyo and anyone interested in the city's older layers. The temple gives the poster a clear centre, and the river gives it a clear edge.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps with a trip date or a family name, and choose one of five styles. The $9 HD files cover six print sizes, from 30×40 cm to 24×36″, with no watermark.
