Ibshawāy lies in the Faiyum depression, a large basin west of the Nile Valley. It is northwest of the city of Faiyum and slopes down toward Lake Qarun. On a map, the town is a dense, irregular cluster of streets in a landscape completely shaped by irrigation.
Canals fed from the Bahr Yusuf branch across the depression and divide the farmland into long, narrow plots. The main roads follow some of these waterways and lead from the town toward Faiyum and the villages near the lake. At the edge of the cultivated land, the canal network ends abruptly at the desert.
The Faiyum has been farmed and irrigated since ancient times, and its canals are among the oldest managed water systems in Egypt. An Ibshawāy map poster shows the compact town and the lines of the canals around it in fine black linework.
Canals branch across the farmland in long lines, creating a strong pattern that frames the town.
The streets of the centre are packed closely together, a dense shape surrounded by open fields.
The land falls gently toward the lake to the north, and roads and canals follow that direction.

For families from the Faiyum, the map shows home as a network of fields and water that has shaped life there for thousands of years. It is an unusual poster.
