Achim lies in the district of Verden in Lower Saxony, a short distance southeast of Bremen. The town sits on the edge of the Weser lowlands. From above, open marshland and meadows with drainage ditches stretch toward the river on one side, while on the other the ground rises gently toward sandy heath and woodland. The street network fills the space between.
Achim's closeness to Bremen has shaped its growth. The A27 motorway and the railway line to Verden and Hanover both pass along the town, so the map shows long transport corridors running beside residential streets.
