Te mapa
Ad-Damazin lies on the Blue Nile in southeastern Sudan and serves as the capital of Blue Nile state. From above, the river is the clear organising line. The city spreads along its bank in a fairly regular pattern of blocks and roads, with open land beyond. The river is wide here, and it anchors the composition of any map of the area.
The city is closely linked to the Roseires Dam, which stands just upstream and holds back a large reservoir on the Blue Nile. The dam supplies hydroelectric power and water for irrigation, and it is the main reason the area is known well beyond the region. Ad-Damazin and the neighbouring town of Er Roseires sit close together along the same stretch of river.
An Ad-Damazin map poster keeps the view simple and legible: the broad band of the Blue Nile, the grid of the town beside it and the roads heading out across the plain. It suits anyone with a personal connection to this part of Sudan, or anyone drawn to river cities shaped by their water.
The river forms a wide, dominant curve along the city's edge. It is the strongest element on the poster and gives the town its orientation.
Upstream, the Roseires Dam and its reservoir change the character of the river. Wider water above the barrage contrasts with the flowing channel below it.
Ad-Damazin's streets follow a largely planned, rectilinear pattern, so the city reads on paper as a neat block of grid lines beside the water.
