Te mapa
Agios Efstratios is a small volcanic island of bare hills and scrub in the North Aegean, south of Lemnos. From above it has an irregular, lobed outline. Its single village gathers around a harbour on the west coast. Beyond the village, a few dirt tracks wander toward the beaches and valleys, and much of the island is simply open slope.
A strong earthquake in 1968 destroyed much of the village, which was largely rebuilt afterwards. That is why its street plan looks more ordered than hillside villages elsewhere in the Aegean. In the twentieth century the island was also used as a place of internal exile for political prisoners, and Greeks still remember it for that.
Today the island is quiet. Visitors arrive by ferry, walk or take a boat to the beaches, and see little traffic. An Agios Efstratios map poster shows that balance well: a compact cluster of houses by the water, a scatter of tracks, and a coastline of small coves that looks almost hand-drawn against the empty sea.
The island's only settlement curves around its west-facing harbour. This tight cluster of streets is the one dense patch of lines on the whole map.
Much of the village was rebuilt after the 1968 earthquake. Its more regular blocks stand out from the older, organic street pattern usual in Aegean island towns.
Unpaved tracks lead from the village across the hills to small beaches along the coast. They draw thin, meandering lines through otherwise blank terrain.

Koteā ko Agios Efstratios
It suits anyone with family roots on the island, or anyone who found it on a slow ferry route through the North Aegean. The shape is modest and personal, better suited to a hallway or study than to a grand statement, and that is part of its appeal.
Put a family name, a year or a short line in the title and subtitle, keep or edit the coordinates, and pick one of five styles, from Paper to Noir. A free watermarked preview lets you check the layout before you buy.
