Te mapa
Aihara lies in the northern part of Kanagawa Prefecture, within the Sagamihara area and close to the boundary with Tokyo. On a map it appears as a patchwork of residential streets, small fields and wooded slopes, where the dense suburbs of western Tokyo begin to give way to the hills that rise toward the Tanzawa mountains.
The Sakai River, which marks much of the border between Kanagawa and Tokyo in this area, winds past the district, and its course gives the map a natural dividing line. Railway lines run through the area, and the streets gather around them in the way typical of Japanese suburbs, with narrow lanes branching off a few through roads.
An Aihara map poster suits someone who knows the quieter edge of the metropolitan area. The composition is less about landmarks and more about the fine grain of Japanese residential streets, their irregular angles, and the green gaps where hills and farmland remain.

Wooded slopes and small fields break up the built area, showing where the city meets the hills of western Kanagawa.
