Te mapa
Hino lies in the Tama area of western Tokyo, with the Tama River running along its northern side and the Asa River crossing the city before joining it. South of the rivers, the land rises into the Tama Hills, where streets wind around slopes and wooded parks. The flatter northern districts hold denser housing, factories and the stations of the Chūō Line.
The city is the historic home of Hino Motors, the truck and bus maker that takes its name from the city. It is also known for its connection to the Shinsengumi, as vice-commander Hijikata Toshizō was born here. Tama Zoological Park, one of the largest zoos in Tokyo, lies on hilly ground in the south of the city.
A Hino map poster contrasts two landscapes: the orderly blocks and rail lines of the river plain, and the curling streets of the hillside housing estates. The rivers run through as soft pale bands, while the Keio Line and the Tama Monorail add long strokes that connect Hino with the rest of the metropolis.
The broad Tama River forms the northern edge of the city, with wide floodplain banks that show on the map as a strong, open band.
A smaller river crosses Hino before meeting the Tama, dividing the flatter northern districts from the rising land to the south.
In the south, residential streets curve around wooded slopes and valleys, a very different pattern from the straighter blocks near the stations.

Koteā ko Hino
Hino is a place of daily commutes, family homes and weekend walks along the river, the kind of city people rarely think to celebrate but remember clearly. A map of it makes a personal, understated piece for a Tokyo apartment or a home far away.
