Te mapa
Higashimurayama is a residential city in the Tama area of Tokyo, west of the city centre. Its map is a dense, finely divided pattern of houses and narrow streets typical of the Musashino plateau, crossed by several Seibu railway lines. To the north the land rises into the wooded Sayama Hills, close to the Murayama reservoirs known as Lake Tama.
The city holds the Jizō Hall of Shōfuku-ji, a Zen temple building from the Muromachi period and the only building in Tokyo designated a National Treasure. Higashimurayama is also known across Japan through the comedian Ken Shimura, who grew up here and turned the local song, the Higashimurayama Ondo, into a nationwide hit in the 1970s.
A Higashimurayama map poster shows a suburb with real texture: rail lines converging on the station, curving lanes around old temple grounds, pockets of green between the housing and the wooded Sayama Hills at the northern edge. Detailed and dense, it rewards a close look in a way that many larger cities do not.

The temple precinct with its National Treasure Jizō Hall forms a small wooded block within the residential streets, easy to find on a detailed crop.
Toward the north the housing gives way to wooded hills around the Murayama reservoirs, a soft border to the dense urban grain.

Koteā ko Higashimurayama
Higashimurayama is the kind of place where people live for years, commuting into central Tokyo and coming home to quiet streets. A map of it records that everyday life: the station, the local shops, the walk past the temple, the hills at weekends.
