Te mapa
Al Wajh lies on the Red Sea coast of Saudi Arabia's Tabuk Region, between the coastal mountains and a sea fringed with coral reefs and small islands. The town grew around a natural harbour that served as a port for a long time. On the map it appears as a dense core near the water, with newer districts spreading inland in a looser grid.
Al Wajh was once a stopping point for trade and pilgrim traffic along the Red Sea, and traditional buildings in the old quarter reflect that coastal past. Today the reefs and islands along this coast are drawing new tourism projects, and the town's airport and coastal highway link it to the rest of the northwest.
An Al Wajh map poster shows how the desert town meets the sea. The shoreline breaks into inlets and headlands, islands sit just offshore, and the streets stop sharply where sand and scrub begin, giving the design clean, open edges.
The old port area lies along the shore, where short streets meet the water and the coastline curves around a sheltered anchorage.
A denser cluster of narrow streets near the sea marks the historic core. Its irregular pattern stands apart from the orderly blocks of later growth.
Inland, the town quickly gives way to open desert and the foothills of the coastal mountains, leaving wide, quiet space around the built area.
