Allende is a town in the northern Mexican state of Coahuila, in the region called Cinco Manantiales, or Five Springs. The name reflects what sets this area apart: water in otherwise dry country. On the map, the town appears as a regular grid of blocks, surrounded by farmland watered by channels and streams.
The land around the town is mostly flat, and agriculture shapes its lines. Orchards and fields divide it into rectangles, and irrigation ditches run in straight or gently curving courses between them. Roads connect Allende with neighbouring towns in the region and north toward the border with Texas.
