Te mapa
Monclova lies in the centre of Coahuila in northern Mexico, on a broad plain surrounded by desert mountain ranges. On a map the city is a large, mostly regular grid, extending along the Monclova River and merging with the neighbouring town of Frontera. Industrial plants occupy large areas on the city's edges, and highways lead toward Saltillo, Monterrey and the northern border.
Founded in the late seventeenth century, Monclova was for a time the capital of the state of Coahuila and Texas. In the twentieth century it became known as the steel capital of Mexico, after Altos Hornos de México built its large steelworks here. The plant shaped the city's growth and still defines much of its identity.
A Monclova map poster shows the orderly grid of a northern Mexican city, with the steelworks forming a massive block of industrial land beside the residential districts. The river and railway lines add long diagonal strokes, and the open plain frames the scene. It is a strong, graphic map that reflects the city's working character.
The Altos Hornos de México plant covers a vast area, drawn as a large block of rail lines and industrial roads that is one of the most distinctive features of the map.
Residential neighbourhoods follow a straight grid of streets and blocks, a clear and even pattern that spreads across the plain toward Frontera and the outskirts.
Railways run through the city to serve the steel industry, forming long lines that cut across the grid and connect Monclova to the rest of northern Mexico.

Koteā ko Monclova
Monclova is hung by steelworkers and their families, people who grew up in central Coahuila and anyone connected to the region's industrial history. The combination of grid and steelworks creates a strong, graphic print.
