Te mapa
Almere Stad is the central district of Almere, a city built from the 1970s onward on land reclaimed from the former Zuiderzee. Everything here was planned, and it shows from above. Neighbourhoods are distinct clusters with curving internal streets, separated by green belts, canals and straight infrastructure lines that follow the logic of the polder.
At the centre is the Weerwater, a lake that gives the district an open core. The city centre on its northern shore follows a masterplan by Rem Koolhaas's firm OMA. Almere is also known for its separate bus network with dedicated lanes, and for extensive cycle paths that run apart from car roads. All of this appears as parallel lines on the map.
An Almere Stad map poster looks very different from an old Dutch city with canals. There is no medieval core and no radial plan. Instead you see a pattern of carefully designed neighbourhood clusters, water and straight roads. It reads almost like a planning diagram, which makes it an unusual and very graphic choice for a wall.
A large lake sits at the heart of the district, forming an open centre with the city centre along its northern shore.
Residential areas are self-contained units with curving streets, separated by green buffers and water, like cells in a diagram.
Straight dikes, canals and main roads cross the reclaimed land in long lines, following the rational layout of the polder.

Koteā ko Almere Stad
Almere is a young city, and many of its residents chose to move here. A poster of Almere Stad marks that choice. It shows where a family settled, and the plan itself is strikingly modern and precise.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example with the year you moved in. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand to match the room.
