Amami Ōshima is the largest of the Amami Islands. It lies roughly midway between Kyushu and Okinawa and belongs to Kagoshima Prefecture. Its outline is very irregular: long peninsulas, narrow inlets and sheltered bays give the coast an intricate edge. The interior is steep and forested, crossed by winding roads that link villages tucked into the valleys.
The main town, Naze in Amami City, spreads around a harbour in the north and has the densest street pattern on the island. In the south, the Ōshima Strait separates the island from Kakeroma, forming a sheltered channel with a deeply indented shoreline. In Sumiyo, one of Japan's largest mangrove forests fills a river mouth, and detailed maps show it as a tangle of winding creeks.
In 2021 the island became part of a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site, recognised for wildlife found nowhere else, including the Amami rabbit. It is also known for Ōshima tsumugi, a finely woven silk. An Amami Ōshima map poster frames this long, complex island within the calm of the surrounding ocean.

A narrow channel in the south divides the island from Kakeroma. Both shores are deeply indented, which fills this stretch of the map with fine detail.

The island means a lot to people who grew up there, to those with family in the Amami Islands, and to divers and hikers who spent time in its forests and bays. Its complex outline makes a detailed poster that rewards a second look.
Set your own title and subtitle, using the island's name or a village of your choice, add a date, and edit the coordinates line. Five styles are available, and the $9 digital files print cleanly at sizes up to 24×36″.
