Te mapa
Okinawa is the largest island in Japan's Ryukyu chain, stretching north-east to south-west between the East China Sea and the Pacific. It is long and narrow, and at one point it pinches into a slim waist. The south is heavily built up, and Naha, the prefectural capital, covers the southwestern coast with a dense web of streets around its port.
North of the waist, the Motobu Peninsula bulges west into the sea, and the landscape becomes greener and more rugged. The far north, known as Yanbaru, is covered in subtropical forest with few roads. Along the way, large US military installations appear as broad, open areas inside the urban fabric of the central and southern island.
An Okinawa map poster traces the island's contrasts in a single sheet. Shuri Castle, on a hill above Naha, was the seat of the Ryukyu Kingdom for centuries. The island is also known for karate, which developed here, and for the long life expectancy of its residents, which has drawn attention from researchers around the world.
The capital and its neighbouring cities form a dense, continuous street network across the southern end of the island. It is the most detailed part of the map.
A rounded headland pushes out from the west coast in the north-centre of the island, with smaller islands scattered just offshore.
The northern third of the island is mountainous subtropical forest, with a sparse road network that leaves wide quiet areas on the print.

Koteā ko Okinawa
Okinawa means different things to different people: a birthplace, a posting, a diving holiday or a family's roots in the Ryukyu Kingdom. A clear map of the whole island gives each of those stories a shared shape.
Personalise the title and subtitle, and set the coordinates line to a base, a beach or a home district. Five styles are available: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand.
