Mangrove river mouths
The Urauchi and Nakama rivers spread into wide estuaries edged with mangroves, so their outlines on the map look braided and soft rather than cleanly cut.

Te mapa
Iriomote is the second largest island in Okinawa Prefecture and one of the least built-up places in Japan. Seen from above, it is a compact, roughly circular landmass whose interior carries almost no lines at all: dense subtropical forest covers most of it, climbing to low mountains. What detail there is gathers at the rim, where river mouths open into bays and small settlements sit beside the shore.
Rivers do much of the drawing here. The Urauchi and Nakama rivers wind inland through broad mangrove belts, and on a map their meanders read as fine, branching strokes cut into the coast. A single road follows the northern and eastern shores and then simply stops, leaving the western and southern coastline without a through route. That unfinished loop is one of the island's most recognisable features in print.
The island is best known for the Iriomote cat, a small wild cat found nowhere else, and since 2021 it has been part of a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site alongside other islands of the Ryukyu chain. An Iriomote Island map poster keeps that sense of emptiness intact: a pale interior, a delicate coastline, and the thin thread of road that marks where people live.
The Urauchi and Nakama rivers spread into wide estuaries edged with mangroves, so their outlines on the map look braided and soft rather than cleanly cut.
One coastal road runs along the north and east of the island and ends at each tip, a partial ring that shows how little of the coast is reachable by car.
Most of the island is unbroken forest and hill country, which leaves a large, quiet space in the middle of the print with only a few streams crossing it.

Koteā ko Iriomote Island
For people who have kayaked its rivers or walked to its waterfalls, this map records a place defined by what is missing: few roads, fewer buildings, a coastline that does the talking. It suits a quiet wall, a study, or a room that needs calm.
You can set your own title, a subtitle such as the dates of a trip, and the coordinates line, then choose between Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. The Sand style sits particularly well with the soft mangrove edges.
