Rivers and embankments
The Tamsui, Keelung and Xindian rivers wrap around the city, lined with long parks behind flood walls. They give the map strong curving edges on three sides.

Te mapa
Taipei fills a basin enclosed by mountains, with the Yangmingshan volcanic range rising to the north and forested hills to the south and east. Rivers mark its edges: the Tamsui flows along the west side, the Keelung River loops through the north, and the Xindian joins from the south. Long embankments and riverside parks trace these waters around the city.
The historic core lies in the west, near the Tamsui, in districts such as Wanhua and Dadaocheng, where the first trading streets grew up. The Qing-era city walls were removed under Japanese rule and replaced by broad boulevards, though several gates, including the North Gate, still stand. Many streets are named after Chinese cities and provinces, arranged roughly according to their geography.
East of the centre, the grid becomes wider and more regular, culminating in the Xinyi district and Taipei 101, which was the world's tallest building when it opened in 2004. Elephant Mountain rises directly behind it. A Taipei map poster shows the whole arrangement clearly: old riverside districts, planned eastern avenues and green hills pressing in from every side.

A planned eastern district of wide avenues and large blocks, centred on Taipei 101. Its regular layout contrasts sharply with the older, denser streets near the river.
The volcanic mountains north of the city, with winding roads, hot springs and a national park. On the poster the street pattern thins out and gives way to curving hillside roads.

Koteā ko Taipei
Taipei is an easy city to become attached to, whether through night markets, hiking trails on its edges or a first apartment in Da'an. A map of the basin, the rivers and the grid holds all of that in one quiet frame.
Personalise the title and subtitle, perhaps with a date or a district name, and keep the coordinates line or rewrite it. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand; Blueprint suits the orderly eastern grid, Noir the rivers.
