Te mapa
Xizhi is a district of New Taipei City, east of Taipei, occupying a stretch of the Keelung River valley. The river loops through the district in tight curves, and the map shows the built-up area following its banks in a long, narrow band, with steep wooded hills rising on either side. Roads and rail lines run parallel to the water, compressed into the flat land available.
The valley is one of the main routes between Taipei and the port of Keelung, so the railway and an elevated national freeway cut through Xizhi in bold lines. Newer high-rise housing and business parks have filled much of the valley floor, while older, smaller streets cluster near the station. The surrounding hills are threaded with hiking trails.
A Xizhi map poster makes the most of that dramatic setting, with the river's meanders forming the backbone of the composition and the hills holding the city in place on both sides. It suits commuters, long-time residents and anyone who has walked the trails above the valley and looked down on the river.
The river winds through the district in a series of tight loops, and much of the city is built on the flat land inside and alongside these curves.
Railway tracks and an elevated freeway run the length of the valley, drawing long parallel lines through the map between Taipei and Keelung.
Forested hills rise steeply on both sides of the valley, leaving the built-up area as a narrow band that follows the river's course.

Koteā ko Xizhi
Many people pass through Xizhi every day on the way to or from Taipei, and many more have made it home. A map of the valley shows the place in a way that is hard to see from street level.
