Te mapa
Ambrym, in central Vanuatu, is roughly triangular, and nearly all of its shape is dictated by volcanism. At its heart lies a caldera about twelve kilometres across, a wide floor of ash and old lava from which the active cones of Marum and Benbow rise. On a map the island reads as a ring: an empty crater plain in the middle, steep slopes around it, and settlement pushed out to the edges.
Roads are few and mostly short, linking coastal villages rather than crossing the island. Tracks and paths lead inland from the shore toward the caldera, and some stretches of coastline are reached mainly by boat. The result is a map with a strong centre of gravity: lines point toward the volcanic core but rarely pass through it, leaving the crater floor as open, unmarked ground.
Ambrym is also known well beyond Vanuatu for its culture. North Ambrym is famous for tall carved slit drums, and the island is closely associated with the sand drawing tradition that UNESCO recognises as intangible heritage. An Ambrym map poster captures the island's geography plainly, with the caldera as a pale disc and the coast as a steady, unbroken outline around it.
A wide, near-circular depression around twelve kilometres across fills the middle of the island, giving the print an unusual empty centre framed by rising ground.
Two active cones stand inside the caldera, long known for their lava lakes. They are the reason the island's interior remains largely without roads or villages.
Settlements sit along the shore, joined by short roads and tracks, so the island's human geography forms a loose ring around the volcanic interior.

Koteā ko Ambrym
Ambrym appeals to travellers, volcano watchers and anyone with ties to Vanuatu. Its geometry is striking even without labels: a triangle with a hollow heart. On a wall it reads almost as an abstract drawing, which is a large part of its appeal.
Add a title in any language you like, a subtitle and a coordinates line, then choose one of five styles. Noir sets the island on a dark ground that suits its volcanic character, while Paper or Sand give it a softer, printed-atlas look.
